Check-Points & Catch Points
Principal Systems' Warehouse Management Systems and Supply Chain Solutions leave nothing to chance - employing check-points and catch-points
to validate stock information and ensure key process
steps are followed.
In this way they maximise stock accuracy levels and traceability, particularly in the context of rising warehousing/supply chain challenges, such as more complex stock handling rules.
Catch-Point
example: The system believes that there are 10 cases in a pick face and therefore instructs the picker to pick the 10. However, in actuality there are only 8, owing to a earlier mis-pick. The picker notes the issue and continues picking, while the system generates an NCR (non conformance report) to deal with the problem.
Check-Point
example: A picker is required to
count the inventory at a particular location at
a predetermined interval (perpetual inventory) - if the count is not as
expected a required action to rectify the inaccuracy
will be mandated by the system - e.g. check the
last 5 orders completed from that location.
Check-Points
and Catch-Points ensure that errors are caught early - before they move beyond the warehouse, or the point of delivery. That means a major source of potential costs can be controlled.
